Balloons, Balloons & More Balloons!

Chloe watches a balloon this morning from in the park.

It’s that time of year again where our city hosts the “Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta”. An annual event that’s known around the world, the Balloon Fiesta draws nearly a million onlookers and tourists over its nine days during the early part of October.

First started in 1972 with just 13 hot air balloons, the fiesta now draws more than 700 pilots and their chase crews from around the globe.

It’s a unique event that makes living in the southwest, and our particular part of the high desert really fun! From our house alone - situated in the foothills - makes for a nice viewing position where we can watch balloons soaring on the westside, but depending upon air currents on any particular day, we’ve even experienced their flight patterns coming our way.

To the dismay of one cocker spaniel, who clearly hears the on-again, off-again roar of the hot air as the pilot discharges it into the balloon canopy, Chloe usually heads in the opposite direction. According to the balloon pilots, that unique sound has been known to make some dogs jump their property walls and wild coyotes to go scattering!

We spot this balloon on the walk back home.
