TYDTWD

6.23.2016

Chloe's reaction on hearing that Friday, June 24th is TYDTWD.

Can I get a show of hands for those planning on celebrating TYDTWD tomorrow?  What you haven’t heard of TYDTWD? Well, that makes two us, that is until I noticed it a few days ago on my calendar. Yes, TYDTWD is the abbreviation for “Take Your Dog to Work Day”.

That’s right, we already have, Take Your Daughter to Work Day and Take Your Son to Work Day, which if you didn’t know has been officially combined into “Take Your Child to Work Day,” and when I Googled it, the Internet came up with a few more Take Your Something to Work Day, where you just have to fill in the “something”.

Makes you wonder, how anyone gets work done if they’re always taking something to work!

But back to TYDTWD, which had its origins in the United Kingdom in 1996, and later followed up in the United States in 1999 by a group called Pet Sitters International where the Friday following Father’s Day was set aside to mark the occasion. The primary purpose of this special day is to celebrate the companionship that dogs bring, and encourage adoptions from local shelters, rescue groups and humane societies. It sounds kind of like National Dog Weekin my opinion, but if you’re a dog lover, adding another day to celebrate canine companion certainly can’t hurt. I’m sure the dogs don’t mind, …so can I get another show of hands again of who’s planning to celebrate TYDTWD?
