Every dog likes to be given a food treat, and Chloe is no
exception. Having tried several different brands of good wholesome natural
ingredient treats, I have settled on a product manufactured by “Nutro” called
“Natural Choice Crunchy Treats” as the preferred walking essential. This small
bite size morsel comes in six flavors that include apple, mixed berries, pomegranate,
peanut butter, carrot, and banana.
Chloe has been treated to each of the flavors on a rotation
basis, but her preference seems to be for the mixed berries, although sometimes
its hard to tell, since she goes sniffing my pockets for whatever type of treat
that I have in there. From the mixed berry ingredient list these treats
include real slices of blueberry, cranberry, cherries, whole brown rice,
oatmeal, and other natural flavors. They are also fortified with vitamins and
minerals, and they are not made with wheat, wheat gluten, corn fillers, or corn
gluten. Their price is fairly easy on the wallet and they are made in the USA.
Because of their small size, about a 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch,
they are very easy to carry in the pocket, and their aroma is that of real berries,
or whatever the flavor happens to be. These are of course not be used in place
of her regular food diet, but they are there as a special reward and for
training purposes.
Our daily regiment before we start our walk is that I have
Chloe sit down, before I open the front door and again to sit down when we
return home as I unlock the door. Each time that Chloe obeys the sit command
she is rewarded with one of these crunchy treats. I also reward her during the
walk if she heeds my command like “drop it” if she picks up a foreign object
in her mouth.
